Just a few weeks ago now the 2011 World Rally Championship season came to an end in Wales, UK. It was an amazing season and Nokia were present on the tour for every twist and turn as the official technical sponsor. Check out the review of the 2011 tour.
What is the World Rally Championship?
Here’s a little run-down of the World Rally Championship for those of you who are unsure about who they are and what they do. The WRC is organised by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and takes place all over the globe; from Australia to South America and the Middle East to Europe (there’s even a rally in Finland, the home of Nokia). For those interested, below is how the first half of next year looks. Not a bad calendar for those avid travellers amongst us.
Across the year there are 13 three-day events that take place on a multitude of different driving surfaces (ever tried driving on snow?) and at the end of the season there is a prize for the winning driver and the winning car manufacturer across the whole year (just like Formula 1 racing). This year Sebastian Loeb lifted the trophy for the eighth year in a row, an unrivalled feat in the motor sport world!
Nokia and WRC
You may be wondering where the partnership between Nokia and WRC started? Well we developed the official WRC Live app for rally drivers and fans alike to follow the live in-rally progress of teams and drivers using Nokia Maps. The app also enabled everyone to stay up-to-date with exclusive WRC content and news on all Nokia platforms, including S40, Symbian 3, Meego and Windows Mobile.
Here’s a cool statistic for you, the WRC app was downloaded by close to a 1 million people in 2011 and many of the teams on the WRC circuit use it to stay ahead of the competition. Hello. The WRC Live it´s a great app. Lots of updates about the races and the championship, but it lacks some features. For example: You see the teams that are in the championship, but don´t have access to the name of all the pilots of that teams, for example, the last one. I think that it should have too, the statistics of each race, the best moments commented too, a resume of each race, the top speeds, details of the cars, details of the places of the race, for people that want to check the race right there too. I think it´s a very good app, with a very good speed and very beatiful too. That a matter of time to become a excellent one (that should too, become a game in the future… who knows?). it is a great application. I can see all news when i want and updated to last moment. Then i can follow all rally stars and their competition from my mobile. It is also well organized in sections that helps to use this wonderful application. Concluding, it is a beatiful application, well organised and also very useful. Really good application. I didn’t know wrc and i’m not an expert (i downloaded it when i heard about the possibility to win lumia) but i have to say that the app is very beautiful with lots of videos, amazing photos and news. And it’s very fast, clear with good graph. I’ll study about wrc for the future. Thanks to nokia.

WRC Live is the official app for the FIA Rally Championship which has been developed in Partnership with Nokia. The app is available for the Symbian platform on devices running Symbian Anna or Symbian Belle.
The latest version of the app now allows you to follow the in-rally process of your favorite teams and drivers live on the inbuilt map. It also allows to you stay up to date with the results from each stage through information, news and exclusive videos.
The app takes advantage of the wide screen displays on your Nokia handsets as you will immediately have to switch to landscape mode to use it. The application has been designed with the latest version of Symbian in minds as you will get the feel of Symbian friendly visuals. The premium visuals are something we can expect from the folks at Nokia.
The UI is easy to navigate through, with the menu on the right side allowing you to select your topics of interest and browse through them quickly. You can select Rallies & Results, Drivers & Teams, Media or browse through the other available options

é un’app ben fatta. Secondo il mio parere con qualche miglioria può diventare un vero e proprio social network. Credo che i video e le news in tempo reale siano fantastiche e anche seguire direttamente le competizioni sulla mappa credo sia davvero indispensabile per una persona amante del rally come me!

The app has a nice UI and I didn’t face any lags while I went through all the functions. I also found the photos and infos very well presented, but the videos would have been better if they were played straight in the app instead of opening in the webbrowser. I have only tried this on N9 since I don’t have any Lumia to try it on. Hopefully you can fix the video issue and develop similar apps for other championships and why not for bigger happenings overall. Thank you anyway for this great app. It really did open up my eyes again for the rally championships.

The app is one of my favorites and one of the best available at the OVI Store. Who wouldn’t want to have real time scores, news and videos whenever they become available. The quality of the video is superb as is on the Nokia N8. This app is a wonderful app and I enjoy using it on a daily basis. Thanks Nokia!

Awesome WRC app!! Very user friendly, great high quality photo’s and video’s. Great way to stay up to date on all the WRC rally’s. Even if you’re not really into car rally’s this is a must have app.

The WRC Live app is absolutely gorgeous. It gives instant results and what event was just completed. You can go back to the events and see what was going on in each of them. You can even watch exclusive videos and it’s basically the ultra database for the championship. Best of all the touch UI is really responsive and smooth.

about this WRC Live App which gives me no regrets,
for i have found everything i need
which is an awesome feeling for me indeed.
The moment that i download it on my Nokia device
I have all the information, insights and advice,
with this rally fans must-have application
I am up-to-date, as if live, present on the action.
Results, news and exclusive videos are here on my phone
I can follow my favorite team and driver at work, or at home,
it has everything from championship rankings to hall of
fame
images, videos, live commentary, seems anything, you name.
It has a route overview which shows you the track/course
great graphics on our favorite Nokia Maps, of course,
I can turn on itinerary, split time records to get detailed info
such as the split difference between Citroen and Subaru,
and about how long it takes each racer to finish a lap,
hoping for your ninth winning Sebastian Loeb,

WRC Live app review:
Upon starting the application for the first time, you can not help, but to notice the nice layout.
Automatically updating news feed on top, buttons leading to important details on right and quick links on bottom left.
Before starting the app, I expected to find a wide palette of colors, just like most of the WRC cars have. But no, the developers have taken a slick and clean approach and that is a huge plus. Also all the transitions between different views are animated, and this brings very fluid feeling when using the app.
For a normal sports fan, following WRC mainly consists of two different things. Statistics: easy access to schedules, driver & team information, seasonal information and details of different rally events. And this app does deliver, after browsing for a while I could find all possible data I would need to saturate my thirst of knowledge when following an event.
But what is people go to see rally for? The speed, the clutch situations, the flying dirt and the sensation the drivers live for. And it is all there, in a form you can take with you to the next rally, and know exactly what happens, when and where. Where is the magic word here, because WRC Live offers a unique possibility to follow drivers on the track by their GPS coordinates. No longer you must rely on screams of other people when standing near rally track. You can relax and stand up to root for your favorite, on exact moment when they drive by.
Luckily the abilities of the app will not end here. When the race is over, and people gather together to sit the night, the discussion is inevitable. That is the moment when this app gives its most. What is more fun, but to show your friend who roots for a different driver, how far their favorite really was from yours? Backing it all up with detailed facts. And then on the way home, you can browse the media gallery to bring it all back once more.
Now let’s just hope that next year our statistics show someone else on top, competitions is always good!

Then whistle sounds comes louder bit by bit and now you can hear it, the incredibly fast coming rally car drives by your toes and just as it passes you, you turn your back to it and you feel the sand and little rocks tapping…”
And when you can’t be there, it’s almost the same tension shaking your body, when you see the little spots moving and split times coming on your Nokia’s screen with live broadcast offered by the Nokia’s WRC app.

WRC app Tested on Nokia C7
Here are just a few thoughts about the app after having tried it for a while.
The app feels right and proves it is perfectly possible to get a really modern app on a Symbian device using the latest Qt. It would be fantastic if Nokia would decide to share the source code of it to let application developer get inspiration and suggestion from it.
At first I was disappointed by the landscape-only orietantion support but walking through the videos and tables I’ve realized that it is the only way to really enjoy the content.
The animations and the overall usability are very good. Only sometimes, while loading for the first time a large batch of images, I had a feeling of unresponsiveness. Nothing major anyway and it might have had something to do with my weak connection.
Bottom line, a must-have for anyone passionate about rallies!

WRC Live is a premium quality app dedicated to The World Rally Championship, developed by Nokia. It’s available on the Nokia Store and it’s compatible with the S40, S60, Symbian ^3 (Anna & Belle) and it’s also available for the new Nokia Lumia on Windows phone Marketplace.

GRAPHICS AND UI
The UI is incredibly smooth, this is because the app is powered by the QT. The touch is very responsive and the application never crashes. The transitions are very cool and I’ve never seen a lag. The design of the app is pretty nice and enjoyable and the homescreen is pretty well organized; I think the developers have done an awesome work from this point of view. SCORE:10
FEATURES
The app is divided in 4 sections:
1. NEWS & DISCUSSIONS: this section shows you the latest news of the world of the Rally. The app updates this section automatically and shows the most important news directly in the homescreen. I personally compared the app to the WRC official website and the news update time is very very fast. There is also Live Text Commentary section which shows live Twitter feeds of WRC Twitter account. There is also a Facebook ‘area’ where you can read the posts of the Facebook wall of WRC, this is a very cool feature. SCORE :10
2. RALLIE & RESULTS: in this section you can check the results of the latest results and the Driver’s Rankings and also the Team’s Rankings. It also shows the championship calendar. in this section, the developers have not forgotten anything. SCORE:10
3. DRIVERS & TEAMS: this section shows you all the informations on the WRC drivers and teams, with pictures and their carriers. There also a Hall of Fame column which shows you everything on the drivers who have done the history of Rally. SCORE:10
4. MEDIA : this section is very important because it contains images of the races and the drivers, the latest interviews, exclusives near live videos and daily news videos. The videos run pretty smooth and I didn’t have any problem. You can also share pictures with your friends by Facebook and via email SCORE: 9
MISSING FEATURES (I had trouble finding them):
1. Incompatibility with Nokia N900
2. Can’t save photos and download videos
3. Other social network integration except Facebook
4. An app widget
Overall Score: 9.5
WRC Live is an awesome app with a very cool UI and nice features. I think it’s one of greatest app on Nokia Store and it’s a must have for any Rally fans.

in my town every year it race a rally until somebody died it was fun, with WRC car, ford RS ctrwosoh, lancia delta but now it’s shittiest as ever peugeot 207 s2000 are the faster cars then like group n impreza driven slow, mitsubishi evo 9 GPL fueled I envy you for having these cars drive like that
