X is for unboXing

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t get my hands on every Nokia released despite working here at Nokia Connects (most, but not all), so it’s always great to see retail packaging and the contents when people film their unboxings.

via Which Mobile domasas12 has unboxed the X2-05 to a rocking soundtrack (so there's no real explanation or reaction to what comes in the box). It comes to quite an abrupt end, but it's great to see that box contents don't really change the world over :) Now an unboxing where everything ends up all laid out neatly on a clean background is my type of unboxing (even though I have had an X7 in my hands), I watched this for its clinical methodology. Finnish Valentine’s Day: celebrate your friends!

Feb
7

04:00 am

Usually at Nokia Connects, when we think about Valentine’s Day we think about roses, romance, candle-lit dinners, chocolates and lots of hugs and kisses.

Our Finnish friends like to do things a little differently though, so it might come as no surprise that they celebrate something else on the 14th of February instead... Valentine's Day in Finland, although a popular day to get married or engaged on, is actually referred to as 'Ystävänpäivä', which means 'Friend's Day'. This is a day where people write cards and share gifts with their closest friends. [...]

Nokia Lumia 800 – all white with us

Feb
6

21:32 pm

News today on Nokia Connects of a new colour for the Nokia Lumia 800 – well, technically it’s an absence of all colour, but we’re not going to get all picky when we have this to look at.

via SlashGear It seems everyone loves a white phone (it's a matter of personal opinion, though, I prefer black) and today things are lighting up as the white Nokia Lumia 800 has been launched. The post by our friends at Nokia Conversations highlights the fact that white is a great choice as 'the smoothly-crafted polycarbonate unibody case perfectly offsets the uniquely curved ClearBlack touch screen' Over at Endgadget (which also has an awesome hands on gallery) Mat Smith reckons that the white Nokia Lumia 800 has 'an almost-enamel feel' while still being made from the polycarbonate material that we're all familiar with from the black, cyan and magenta versions. Make Me Smile Monday #5

Feb
6

12:58 pm

That time again ladies and gentlemen (hot off the back of last week’s most popular MMSM yet), time to take my glass half full Nokia Connects look at Monday morning.

Shake off the blues before you knuckle down to the week ahead and take a look at what I found last week to make us all smile. via the Uniblog As ever, we start with Star Wars news. Not that I wanted this to become a running theme, but sometimes the cards just fall how they fall (it's going to be a running theme). So, thanks to Ahards, how about a solid chocolate Han Solo? I think my tastebuds just exploded! In a similar (but less edible) vein, how do you feel about sharing your shower with a miniature made-of-soap Astromech? These are definitely the droids you are looking for. [...]

The Big Debate: single or multiple home screens?

Feb
5

02:00 am

If you missed last Sunday’s Nokia Connects Big Debate you can catch up with it somewhere around here before moving onto today’s.

And with this next installment we say thank you to Steve, who's participation previously has sparked our next topic of discussion/argument! 8-) Single or multiple home screens? While the debate was raging in the comments section, with many points of view for both swipe and pressing 'home' on the Nokia Lumia phones, the debate was in full swing on Twitter too, where Steve stated his preference for a single home screen instead of the swiping N9's three. [...]

Nokiapp Showdown #2

Feb

16:56 pm

We were so impressed at Nokia Connects Towers with Michael and Cj’s Nokiapp Showdown last week that we were clamouring to have a go ourselves, so with a little persuading Paul and I have been let loose to have our say on Twitter apps.

***** Gravity on the N8 That's me Looks like I get first shot this week, so what do I think of Gravity? Let me share some facts: It was the first app I used on a phone to manage Twitter I first used it on an N97 mini The first tweet I sent using Gravity was on the #N97MiniTour ...and I loved it! The reasons are legion. The interface is so very, very user friendly. [...]

All ears! A pictorial history of Bluetooth headsets. Part 1

Feb
3

23:22 pm

It may be named after a 10th-century Danish king with a passion for tooth-staining blueberries, but Bluetooth is now very much a 21st century technology.

Just look at headsets. Ten years ago they made you look like a Trekkie and gave you little more than fifteen minutes of talk time. But a decade is a lifetime in the evolution of a product. To see just how much headsets have changed we spoke to Product Program Manager, Olli-Pekka Ahokas, a man involved with Nokia Bluetooth headset development since the very beginning. Here's the first part of his pictorial history. [...]
