Everyone is falling over themselves to get the scoop on Nokia’s new flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 800. So much information online from many different sources has been loaded into a metaphorical shotgun and fired into the sky like a firework, whose loud bang turns heads and makes hearts race while the fizzy fantastic light sparkles and dazzles everyone who bears witness.
This is why we thought we’d bring together 8 things you might have missed or overlooked in your frenzy for knowledge along with some quirky bits of useless information that you certainly won’t be able to impress a prospective parter with. Here we go…

Image courtesy of The Handheld Blog
1 The word ‘Lumia’ is the term coined by 20th Century Artist Thomas Wilfred to refer to art created from light.
2 One thing that you may not have realised is that the Lumia 800 actually has a dedicated camera key for taking your holiday snaps or pictures of your breakfast (you know who you are!). This is of course the main hardware difference between it and the similarly shaped N9.
3 It took a third less time to produce the 800 and 710 than previous Nokia Smartphones. Something which really shows that Nokia does have what it takes to build world class mobile technology and bring it to market.
4 The body is all one colour throughout as well. Something which clumsy people will be very happy with because although it comes with a rubber case to shield the phone, if you did happen to fall foul of gravity and drop it, the body wouldn’t show its scarring half as much as if it was anodized aluminium for example.
5 The three colours the Lumia 800 comes in are stealthy black, cool blue and vivid pink. I prefer pink personally but they all look stunning.
6 Further more you can add even more personalisation to the Lumia 800 by changing the colour of the tiles to suit your mood. If you’re superstitious like me, you might want to change your colours to green for GO! when you’re late to meet a prospective partner through an area with lots of traffic lights. Although I don’t advise you do this while you’re driving, best to plan ahead.

7 The camera has 8megapixels, records video in HD (1280 pixels by 720 pixels), plays at 30 frames per second (that’s 5 frames higher than the Nokia N8) and sports x3 digital zoom too. I don’t advise you use this piece of information to impress a prospective parter though!
8 The screen is lit up by an AMOLED Clear Black Display, fortified with curved Gorilla glass to make your gestures feel smooth like silk. The Gorilla glass is perfect for protecting the Lumia 800 against scratches when it’s in your pocket with coins and keys.
So, they’re our eight fascinating facts, if you have any you’d like to share, don’t hold back – all are welcome

It is just a great smartphone. At first sight I fell prey to it’s (nokia lumia 800) design and features. I was thinking to buy it but when I came to know that it has no front camera for video calling then I think it just went wrong. A smartphone must have front camera for video calling.

Yeah it did take 1/3rd the time to make this phones but when nokia took 3 tyms the time and delivered gems like N8 or N95 it was a total NOKIA experience with hardware and software not some off the shelf component.
Be proud of ur past NOKIA u are a great company create a bright future but be proud of ur past NOKIA u are a great company u defined the tech world how can u forget that.

The tour is amazing! I don’t know about aatkscbge passes, but we always wait about an hour after the show and most of the cast comes out for pictures and autographs. They had gates up and you line up and the dancers come to you.Last tour all the dancers were so gracious but Phillip and Melissa were my favs. Melissa was so sweet and beautiful, and Phillip was so thoughful with an amazing smile. He kept asking my little daughter, Did I get you? meaning, did I get a picture/ autograph with you yet. I just loved him.Our only disappointment was that Janine, the winner that year, did not come out to do autographs or anything. We will wait to meet the dancers again this year.I know I sound like a broken record but I am still so, so disappointed that Neil will not be on the tour.

All these facts are fun and thats just about it. The question is, how does the Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS compare to MeeGo, iOS and Android OS? Is it snappy? Can it handle hard day to day stressful work in terms of battery life? How did Nokia pick such a dull GUI? Why does it have to be so bulky a device? 148g is too heavy.

Incase you didnt know.the Nokia N8 does record in 30fps with the camera update from Nokia beta labs. And besides That why didnt Nokia put 1gig ram and 1080p video recording? Other brand new phones have That. Why is Nokia so delayed with hardware?

Hi,
I find the lumia 800 a great device, but I have some questions… Why not add a front facing camera while even the Nokia N9 has one?
Why not 4inch or release another high-end device?
Will it be available in more colors in the near future? White….
I look forward to the answers on my questions.
With kind regards,

I’m a serious nokia fan. Although android drives me crazy, I still insisted to be on the Nokia side for its elegance, simplicity and power. I waited so long for it to bring me a Awesome device, and it gave N9 but unfortunately its running a dead os. Then i thought of waiting for its first windows phone, and lumia 800 came in. Of course it is great but how does Nokia expect its own fans like me to buy a smartphone without a front camera??? Now my hopes are down. I hope Nokia makes a unbeatable phone like N9+Windows 7.5 + 12mp camera + Super AMOLED altogether…i’m waiting for you Nokia, pls don’t let me down…

-no front cam
-boring black background throughout the UI.
-I think no alpha-numeric keyboard also. am use it as all symbian phones features it.
Work a little more harder on Symbian. Nokia for me is known for its innovation. but on Symbian device , Nokia failed to do so. i think one more major update after belle can balance every thing. Symbian adapts with all kind of hardware.

As a loyal Nokia buyer over nearly 20 years, I can say that I won’t be buying one.
Windows Phone 7 is like every other MS release – full of security flaws, and by the time it’s been patched on patch on patch, it’ll be slower than a tortoise with an anchor tied to it’s legs.
You should have carried on with Maemo/Meego/Tizen and created a credible third ecosystem, not just become another member of the lemming community being led by Bill. But then again, you employed his former right hand man as your CEO, so what did you expect. No longer Nokia the innovator – it’s Nokia the appliance maker.
I am saddened.

As a loyal Nokia owner, I am not at all impressed. What I do not see here are special features. We talk about colours, falling and clumsy clients. I am sorry but Nokia used to be for the best, not the clumsiest. For one, I will not buy a Nokia windows phone as long as part of the screen is consumed by the menu bar microsoft imposed. This is a Nokia phone, end of story. On the other hand, Nokia is losing market share because they do not motivy developers to make Symbian applications and there phones are toooo slow. We come back to the same issue here, no applications for Windows and the Lumia is too slow even with the double core 1.4 MGh.
It looks like Nokia is like a baby just learning to swim, he jumpy in the water and then starts beating around without knowing what are they doing

Oct 31st, 2011 at 20:45 pm

Oct 31st, 2011 at 20:47 pm
@Smile13 WHT? Lumia 800 is super fast. WP7 doesn’t need dual-cores to be fast. It is the fastest and the best OS in the world. Believe it, I tried many phones. And WP7 has more than 35000 apps and it is only 1 year old. You are talking non-sense

Nokia should come with device like E7 with Windows as os,

It’s great that Lumia 800 will run on WP7, it has a nice design, now we-ll have to test it to see how reliable this smartphone can be…
And really you think you need a 12mp camera on your phone? Digital cameras can provide a quality and accuracy that no phone camera can give you. Come to your senses!

Its a gr8 phone…. going by the reviews published by testers of Win mango… it is one of the most stable and practical OS today… I’ve had front camera on my phones for past 6 years but never used them… so no big deal… Radio or no radio doesn’t bother as we r more into our own music collections… What I miss is the external storage… a big minus…
Processor is good enough… It really doesn’t matter if u have a dual core or not cause it depends on the OS how much power it needs and WP OS is optimized for the same…
Nokia is one of the best hardware manufacturers and we will be showered with many gud models in times to come…
For me its a thumbs up and waiting to grab one asap…

As a true Nokia lover, This phone isn’t gonna hit the market as it should be hitting. Maybe Nokia isn’t looking at other smartphone makers. My advice is why don’t take some time out, Calm down, Raise your head outside the nest, Observe and start designing what even Android can’t in the next 50 years. Plz. Stick to Symbian. WP7 isn’t taking you anywhere. N8 was the best produced Nokia. Be innovative.

The problem w/this new mrafot. The girls get voted off first because there are more women fans and they seem to vote more for the guys. (However, in general, I do think the guy contestants were stronger than the female this season). Also, it’s getting really, really old watching the guys (and girls) dance together. I like couple’ dancing much better. Save the guy+guy, girl+girl for the last 2 shows like in previous years. The show, this season, just lacks balance and pizzazz. If we have to vote off 1 guy/1girl each week, even when it might be more fair to lose 2 guys or 2 girls; well, that’s the price you pay for the show. Please bring back the old mrafot next year.

Does it offer true Symbian like Multitasking? I don’t like the lame Android type multitasking where the app stops everything its doing and closes when you move away from it.
Browsing pages on a bad connection becomes a pain, you can’t even do something else while the page is loading because it will stop loading when you move away and start from scratch when you return to it.

@NOKIA, I really would like to see a better implementation of the capacitive buttons on this lumia, like similar to Dell venue pro. I hope you guys will do that in the next version of luima800. This is the only thing I see as the place of complain about the device.

sillykaybear on August 24, 2011 I just pre-ordered Little Big Planet 2 and Batman Arkham 2 from Amazon. And I got them for FREE! Just went to dapmonjuddy.webs.com and clicked on the free ps3 banner, Sign up and fill out a couple of surveys. I thought it was a scam, But I got 2 ps3 games now for free to show for it.

Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon every day. It will always be useful to read content from other authors and practice a little something from their web sites.
