Nokia Lumia 800 – the epic review

Yes, I went there and used the ‘epic’ word – I don’t bust it out that often, it takes something really special for me to drag it out of the Nokia Connects cupboard, dust it off and use it, but this Nokia Lumia 800 review from Aliqudsi is well worth the effort.

He breaks down the review into handy sections, and I suggest taking a break between each to get your thoughts straight. First up is the unboxing (yes, it's that kind of review - we like). His first impressions of the build quality stand out for me 'Even though the 800 is made of polycarbonate...Nokia still have managed to make it feel amazing. I fail to understand how this feels sturdier than me Aluminum bodied N8 but it does, it feels more compact' To get the nod over the N8 is saying something, and the comparisons and opinions continue from there. Lumia 800: Dubai snapshot with Nirave

Today we have a small introduction and preliminary update of Nirave’s very own Amazing Everyday Activity.

This is something he's decided to do and share on his own, during his holidays. We give credit where credit is due so let's get this spotlight turned on and show you what's happening. You see that picture there? That was taken with a Lumia 800 in Dubai, where Nirave is taking his holiday underneath the scorching middle eastern sun. A great contrast to those of us stuck in colder climates such as Finland, who might be experiencing weather more like this. [...]

Nokia Lumia 900 preview

Jan

00:21 am

It lit up CES 2012 by winning more awards than the Nokia team could carry home (this, of course, isn’t true – the team treasured each and every one of them) the Nokia Lumia 900 has been undeniably the highlight of the new year.

via GSM Dome Tech Radar's Nic Vargus was at CES and managed to get some time with the Lumia 900 and his thoughts form a comparison with the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 that he had previously spent some time with: 'Unlike the 800, the 900 comes with a gorgeous 4.3-inch AMOLED - a noticeable step up from the 800's 3.7-inch screen. Both have a 800 x 480 pixel screen resolution. While opinions on the extra size will be divided, we thought it felt even better than the 800 in our hands and made Windows Phone 7 more crisp and exciting than on the 800. [...]

Nokia X marks the spot

A couple of video reviews for you to feast your eyes on now, looking at the X1-01 and the X7 – two very different phones and two different ways of looking at them.

via TechPinas Starting with the Dual SIM X1-01 and the video from motormotor22 Now you may have noticed that there's no description on the video, but it's a great look round the hardware, and if you're anything like me, you'll provide your own voiceover. Mine started like this: 'Well that's either a very small box, or this guy's hands are huge!' It got more sensible from there, don't worry. [...]

Lumia 800: first thoughts

Jan

22:00 pm

Time to have yet another look at what our trialists are up to right now.

This time we're looking at the Lumia 800, more specifically from Timo and Lee's point of view. via techprolonged First up have MeeGo and N9 enthusiast Timo who really wants to see what all the fuss is about with the N9's cousin (can I say that?), so let's have a little look at his first impressions and see how it compares. In the looks department it compares very well, as it looks so much like the N9 which he already says is 'one of the most beautiful devices out there'. [...]

More Nokia Lumia 900 reaction – first looks, videos

11:24 am

Unless you were emerging bleary-eyed from hibernation, you may have noticed that Nokia announced the Lumia 900 yesterday at CES, and posts are popping up with videos and more considered opinions on the phone.

Starting with the guys on the ground, Mark Guim has a very good video of a Nokia Lumia 900 demo (not an actual hands on, nobody got one of those, except Chanse). He reckons that if 'you like the Nokia Lumia 800, you’ll like the 900 even more.' Ed has also shared his thoughts, saying (quite appropriately given the exclusive ESPN app that's available on the phone) that Nokia have hit a 'home run'. [...]

Nokia Lumia 800: “More of a piece of art rather than technology”

09:01 am

Two posts all about the Lumia 800 here.

One from a seasoned Nokia fan and technology blogger and one from a designer who's curious to unlock and experience the charms of the handset for himself. We want to start off with the story from designer, Jon Gold, who also appears at present to be rocking a rather spectacular Movember moustache, which we're sure you will agree is awesome! Gnarly facial hair aside, we're most interested in his thoughts on the Lumia 800. Nokia N9: “Man’s best friend”

Beautiful, disruptive, breathtaking, magnificent, sophisticated, bliss…

.. these are just a few of the words used in the reviews for our N9 segment today. We'll kick things off with a feisty comment from Dawid Lorenz, who took an N9 off our hands for two weeks to give it a proper once, twice and possibly even a thrice over. Nothing if anything is left out in his detailed and informative shakedown. "The most beautiful and visually sophisticated mobile phone Nokia has ever created" Throughout his review, Dawid regularly commends the N9 for its ease of use, smooth operation within the UI and applications, and exceptional physical appearance. N8 vs. iPhone 4S – video comparison

Nov

05:53 am

A quick post now that pitches the N8 against the iPhone 4S in a video showdown.

Picked up by Kevin Everett over at Nokia Innovation, the video from the excellent Dutch chaps at BesteProduct has their side by side technology in action and, as Kevin does, we'll leave it to you to make up your own mind as to which wins out. The video takes in regular recording of the 'presenter' and close up images, as well as moving from light to dark. Also interesting to note is the audio quality, which flips from one phone to the other throughout the video. [...]
