Ari Partinen, our resident expert photographer, has taken the Nokia Lumia 800 on a special photo tour, and brings us not only his snaps, but his thoughts on the camera too.

Hello my fellow imaging enthusiasts and mobile snappers. It’s been a while since my latest post and lots has happened since. 'The biggest thing in my Nokia life, naturally, was the announcement of the new Nokia with windows phone, Lumia 800.' Despite my undeniable love of the Nokia N8 I decided to leave it in my drawer when I flew off to Asia a few weeks ago. Instead I packed a fresh out of the box Lumia 800 with me in order to test it in the field and of course to share my highly unscientific test results with you guys. [...]

Following on from our recent guest post by Jade on the Nokia N9, our next installment comes from Sergejs Cuhrajs from mynokiablog.

Sergejs has written a super-review on his favourite Nokia design ever - the N90. Not only has he provided a great insight into the phone itself, focusing mainly on the camera feature and phone body, but Sergejs also has some fantastic photographs of the N90 to keep your eyes glued the whole way through. If you're a diehard fan of the N90 and/or Nseries then we're pretty sure you'll really enjoy getting stuck into this article and soaking up everything Sergejs has to say about this fascinating handset. Barranger was part of the #NokiaUnfenced cowboy crew who spent some time in the Rockies recently with a bunch of phones (some of which weren’t even Nokias!), and has shared his views from the standpoint of a Windows enthusiast.

He starts with the camera capabilities, and what better way to illustrate his point than this comparison pic: The X7/Samsung Focus/N8 comparison, he says, shows how Nokia have elevated camera photography from 'good enough to perfect' compared to the competition. And this isn't the only aspect that receives praise - Maps (he's 'extremely excited' to see Maps + Windows) and general feel (look out small furry animals!) also receive the thumbs up. [...]

By now, you’ve probably seen photos from the guys in Canmore, Alberta at #NokiaUnfenced last week, where various Nokia and non-Nokia phones were put to the test.

One of those challenges was the photo contest, to see who could take the picture that best summed up the day. Well, our judge, The Cowboy thought long and hard about it, and decided that Rannie Turingan of Photo Junkie was the worthy winner. Taken on an N8 during their day on the ranch, The Cowboy felt that his striking photo embodies the spirit of the horses and the beautiful surroundings of Canmore. [...]

Summer is here!

. anyway, we're in this period of the year when we all enjoy taking some relaxing (or not) time off. That is exactly what James Burland from Nokia Creative did. He recently came back from some time out in Cornwall, where he captured some awesome shots, most of them taken with the Nokia N8, the rest taken with his current contract phone, the LG Optimus 3D. As James judiciously remarks, even if it’s hard to take a bad photo in such a beautiful place, the Nokia N8 still managed to surprise him! :D You can visit his gallery on Flickr where "It really shouldn’t be that difficult to spot the N8 shots, as they are in a totally different league. In 2006, during a speech at The Smartphone Show in London, Nigel Clifford, then CEO of Symbian said, “The mobile phone is most likely to carry the dream of the personal computer to its conclusion”.

Predicting the future is always risky, but with more smartphones shipped in the last quarter of 2010 than PCs for the first time ever, it looks like he hit the nail on the head. The smartphone is replacing the PC. To see why, we thought we’d show you how far computing has come in the last 30 years or so, by comparing today’s Nokia N8 with some of the PCs of the past. The 1970’s Launched in 1977, the Commodore PET (Personal Electronic Transactor) was one of the world’s first personal computers. [...]
