Revealed at Nokia World back in October, the Asha series is a group of low budget, high impact phones aimed primarily at ‘the next billion’.

via Pocket Lint The Asha series are just hitting the shelves in India and the Philippines, so what better time to bring you some thoughts from around the world? The post in the Philippines Star doesn't give much in the way of opinion, but what it does focus on are the messaging capabilities of the Asha 200. Highlighting 'a colorful dual-SIM phone with a full QWERTY keypad for fast messaging', the email/text/social media aspect of the phone is a definite selling point. [...]

Nokia Lumia 710: speed of social

17:27 pm

How far back can you remember?

If not, just have a coffee and re-cap on what's going on. Once you've done that I will begin... via global-jet Soooo... here is the next video we have to share, in the form of this terrifying (or awesome, it really depends on how 'hardcore' you are) zip-line, somewhere in the desert of Nevada. If you strap one human with a Lumia 710, let's say, Jimmy, into a zip-line and ask him to send a photograph to another human, let's say, Juan, would the photograph arrive on Juan's phone before Jimmy reaches the end of the line? This isn't one of those 'if a train is travelling at whatever MPH, how long will it take to reach. [...]

Nokia Lumia 900 hands on and comparison

Jan

19:24 pm

Taking a look around over the past few days, it’s clear to me that the Nokia Lumia 900 is still making waves around the world a couple of weeks after it was announced at CES.

The ripples have reached the shores of the UK with Chris Smith of T3 giving his thoughts on the phone. 'Windows Phone truly arrived with the Nokia Lumia 800 and the new, larger and significantly 4G-enabled Nokia Lumia 900 is another step in the right direction for both companies' Quite a bold statement, but he backs it up with some well-structured and reasoned observations. There is a clear correlation between the previously announced Lumia 800, and Chris draws the comparisons neatly, such as 'the placing of the neatly-integrated, unobtrusive hard camera and volume keys'. [...]

Sun kissed or missed: Why’s it so tough to make a solar powered mobile?

Jan
23

20:33 pm

The sun has been used to power gadgets since 1834 when British astronomer Sir John Herschel invented a solar thermal collector box to cook food.

It’s hardly surprising solar power has such a long history when you discover how much energy that great ball of fire produces. In one second, enough to meet the needs of the entire planet for 500 000 years! Why, then, are we still waiting for a truly solar powered mobile device? To find out, we spoke to Technology Manager and Nokia solar power guru, Matti Naskali. Mobiles are hungry for power First off, to understand the challenges we need to get a clearer idea of how much power a mobile phone needs to work and how much the current solar panels can produce. Some of you may have already seen this.

But just in-case you hadn't, I couldn't resist bringing it to your attention! It also made us think about all the different types of instruments you could play the Nokia ringtone on at home. So i've included a couple of little tutorials for those budding musicians out there.... via greatmilan This is precisely why you turn your mobile phone off when attending a concert of classical music. Make Me Smile Monday #3

Jan
23

11:01 am

It’s that time again, Monday morning, when crawling out of bed seems just that little bit harder than it does on a Thursday, and lunchtime seems an age away – well don’t worry, I’ve been a busy squirrel, putting away things that have made me smile over the last week, and now it’s time to share them.

via Gizmodo This six foot tall Stormtrooper Cake made me smile. That is all. ***** Well I really wanted to end it there, but someone said this post has to be more than just a picture of a cake. Don't get it myself... First of the 'best of the rest' is this video that made me smile from Madeline. 2011 one second at a time. There are a lot of mirror shots and landing planes, but there are some quite breathtaking moments (look out for the arched door, shoes on a wire and the October sunsets). [...]
