It’s probably no surprise to discover how passionate the Nokia N8 design team are about form and function. However, the fact they’ve been able to introduce a little colour into our lives has got them buzzing too (fast forward to the 1.45 minute mark on the video below to see how much). Most us have a favourite colour, but have you ever wondered what the colour of your smartphone says about you?

The Nokia N8 comes in five cool colours. A while back we had a vote on which of these rocks your world the most. The results showed that black, silver and blue were the most popular choices. Curious as to what this result showed about you, we’ve delved deeper into the wonderful world of colour theory. This is what we discovered.
Black
Black is the colour of mystery and people who choose this colour want to be dignified and impressive without being showy. You are also probably artistic and sensitive. Apparently, your choice might indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings. The colour black is often associated with power and sophistication. Easy to see why it was the top choice, then.
Silver
Rather than being sentimental and looking to the past for inspiration, people who like silver tend to be modern and futuristic in their outlook. Resourceful and flexible, you’re open to new possibilities and are more likely to try anything once. Silver is associated with elegance, so you like to aim for an understated air of sophistication and classiness.
Blue
If you choose blue as your favorite Nokia N8 colour, you are more likely to love harmony and be compassionate and caring. Blue is serene and tranquil, the colour of peace and contentment, deliberation and introspection. You like to be admired for your steady character and wisdom and tend to be suspicious of flamboyant behavior.
Orange
Orange is the only colour named after an object. It’s the colour of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness. If you choose orange as your favourite N8 colour, you’re likely to be a flamboyant and fun-loving person who loves to socialize. Orange fans hate being alone and may be inclined to dramatize a bit, but they are generally good-natured and popular.
Green
Studies show that the colour green increases wellbeing and calmness. Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. If you choose green, there’s a good chance that you’re frank, loyal and community minded. Green lovers are also aware of what others think of them and consider their reputation very important. Fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price, fans of green tend to be refined, civilized and reputable.
Of course colours can mean different things to different cultures. In China for example, brides wear red as it symbolizes a good life, while in South Africa it’s the colour of mourning. But the study of colour has a long history. So what do you think? Does your favourite Nokia N8 colour give us a clue about you?

I can't decide between blue and black… I think blue will be the one, all other phones are black and this one needs to be different!
Too bad is not yet available in Argentina…
Can I get one blue?? Please?

Great to see the choice of colour provoking such strong opinions.
Quite unexpectedly, we're getting attached to orange. It must be our flamboyant natures!

The color of *my* N8 says "I wanted the orange one, given the choice between waiting a month for an orange one and buying a black one now, I went for black." Or, more succinctly: "I'm impatient."

I choose black or silver and what does that say about me? That I'm not a poofter who swoons over fisher-price/teletubby colour schemes.

You can't judge a book by its color. However you can judge a book by its author. Whatever the reason is… It's just purely marketing. Nokia phones are great but with an OS like Symbian in which most Nokia phones are, I'd rather buy an SE, Android phone and iPhone. Don't get me aron I like Nokia just don't like the software they use.

I'm so happy one of the mobile companies is having fun with their products and offering bore than just black, silver and white. Nokia's aren't huge in my area, so my orange N8 is really going to stand out.

The color of your device says nothing about you other than the fact you are a consumer…… I will never let a corporation or any type of governing body define who I am. Learn to think for yourself people!!!! Wake up, there is a war for your mind and the majority are obviously losing…… I would not buy an inate I guess you could say my color is invisible. That is not to say I don't have a cell phone but I would never buy one with any kind of marketing budget its bargain bin for me!!! Consumerism is the illusion of choice.

Thanks for your thoughts Sephious. Even the ancient Greeks studied the meaning of colour and believed they reflected different emotions. Not sure whether the many academics around the world studying colour theory would agree that colour says nothing about you "other than you're a consumer".
But everyone is entitled to their opinion

I bought an N8 in the orange color of Nokia Online Store in Sweden. Phone with other colors than traditional black or silver is nice. Good that Nokia demonstrates imagination and creativity with more colors.

I want Black, but im just asking Nokia why did'nt you produce RED???
I WANT RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT RED! RED! RED! RED! GRRRR RRREEEEDDDD!!!
I'm mean red's a good color i just dont get why they didnt have it. there red leather jacket for an N8 but i dont want that
pls let there be Red. Red would be for the ones who take risks. challenges. strong personalities. idealistic. enthusiastic.
it would be cool if Nokia produced other colors such as Yellow for the bubbly People. pipz who are optimistic and funny.
or Purple for the Unique people who loves rebel . and……..okay Pink for the girls. N8 would totally be a best seller

RedDude, you're clearly a big lover of red, so we're sorry you couldn't get a red N8. To be honest, we're not sure why red didn't make the grade, but no doubt the designers had some very good reasons. Perhaps it was just too hot blooded a colour
Hope you enjoy your black version

I agree that the colour choice would make Nokia (through N8) the best selling device on the market if the colours offered more choice, I love the green and orange and there certainly seems to be a demand for the red and I would place a bet that purple would fly off the shelf but now if there were pink, classy not over the top colour, I'd be there. Unfortunately I had no choice and HAD to get black, and there is nothing I hate more than being the same as everyone else. very matrix.
