While you officially can't replace the battery yourself. It doesn't mean that you can't do it anyway.
To do that you <a href="http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2010/05/how-to-easily-change-the-nokia-n8-battery.html">simply just need to remove two screws on either side of the phone</a>. Obviously your warranty might be lost if you choose to do so.

I think there is no cover for this high quality camera.
Initially camera will work fine, but after few days, it's out glass cover will get scraches and it's photo quality will start spoiling. Nokia N97 and some other modles camera are covered. I have N73 which have lense cover, using since last 3 years, till now it's photo quality is excelent. I will recomend to NOKIA, if they are providing a high quality camera in mobile, without lense cover, it is not long lasting.

Nokia you can see that everyone wants to know the exact release date, please provide (South Africa). I think you need a re-think on the issue of upgrading OS. Nseries are notorius for their hanging, will this one be sorted out? The android is easily updated but takes a bit of time, e.g the sony ericsson x10 starts with android 1.6 but can be upgraded to andriod 2.1.
Can the nokia N8 be upgraded from symbian 3 to symbian 4, thats if symbian 4 is developed which if the N8 with symbian 3 is a success then im sure it will release symbian 4.

I've checked with all nokia dealers in Dubai for N8, from 3 weeks ago, each time they say after a week it will be available, and when I go after a week as per their promise, they again say after a week it will be available.

Dude thz stuff have lots f problem.
1) We cant have option to remove the battery if we do we lost the gaurantee..
2) Thz stuff cant be upgraded.
3) By the way, the battery is a 1200mAh BL-4D. Previous devices like the N97 had a 1500mAh battery. Now, 1200mAh might
be a little bit to weak for such a powerhouse.
4) As the camera lens is not protected we do hope that the lens is scratch resistant. Otherwise scratches on the lens may
spoil the imaging experience tremendously.
5) While many devices are powered with 1GHZ processor the N8 has ”only” an ARM 11 680 MHz processor coupled with
graphics accelerator and 256MB RAM. However, yet we cannot judge whether this is disadvantage.
6) So dude jst thnk before buy thz stuff………..

The launch has been delayed for a good reason till oct. as there are more pre-orders of the phone as first expected and the software is being fully optimized for the n8 and hence the delay. It is a good thing as they are not making the same mistake as the nokia n97 or the apple iphone 4.. its good that they are providing us with a good phone with no problems rather than a phone with problems and later trying to rectify it.. But they should not take too long or people might get impatient and buy other phones..
@sameer- we can change the battery if required from a nokia care center officially.
@aman and sameer – Yes the lens cover is scratch resistant.
@anir – yes a sim card can be used with the n8 it has a sim card slot.
@sameer – the phone has a 1200mAh battery compared to the n97 1500mAh but the talk time on the n8 is more. n97 -Up to 9 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 6 h (3G) while the n8 is Up to 12 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 5 h 30 min (3G)
and about the upgrade Nokia has not mentioned anything about the symbian^4 existing or a upgrade being available that we will just have to wait and see.
As for the release in India (MumbaI) i spoke to a authorized nokia dealer bout 3-4 days ago and he told me it should be availabe by 20th Oct and said the expected price was around 26,000 INR.

I've read lots of statements of people, who claim that they won't buy the N8 because of the not easy replaceable battery, mabye this will be a bumerang for Nokia. Another Problem is that Nokia is behind the time, o.k. 256 MB RAM is better then 128 MB but 512 MB is STANDARD now, also the CPU is a bit slow, not that big problem, i think it won't be too hard to overclock it a bit more, if necessary.

Only one question is answered clearly "YES" others are somewhat politically answered (sorry not the right word and not a native English speaker). Another thing why don't you let people choose their O/S? I am paying for the hardware ok, and it should be my oppurtunity to select the O/S. I love Android and N8 so I want to use Android on N8 its that simple. I am not asking this for 6300 or whatever oldish phone model you have, your latest, high-end, hi-tech model. I do believe Nokia's plan using Symbian on smartphone line up is a wrong choice. I always had Nokia devices before BB, iOS and Android emerge. The competitors have many advantages over your current symbian OS. Fast response on hardware (more fluid and smooth), larger market software, excellent browsing exp, and more advanced memory allocation and resources not to mention true multitasking. Competitors know exactly what market wants and they deliver. I live in Indonesia, and Nokia always have large market share here. But not until recently, during my observation, people are becoming less and less using your products. Not a marketing fault, but more of because your products flaw.
What i want to make a point here is your weakness lies on the software. Nokia always make an excellent hardware. And the design always superb. Nokia R&D always prove it over and over again. I am not suggesting that you have to use other OS than Symbian. But market is smarter nowadays, and media shape our thinking.
U could use the winning OS and keep maintaining market leader, while you nurturing your Symbian OS. Until it is ready and perfected, and its offering groundbreaking user experience, and vast array of quality apps, then u can dictate market, what they should buy.

Will people stop whinging about the OS and its apparent sluggishness… DO YOUR RESEARCH. Yes it processing speed is about 68% compared to iphone 4 and what not but you also have to bring in the GPU which runs at a whopping 32 million polygons per second, this takes SO much stress off the N8 CPU which n turns lets it go as fast and in some cases faster than your precious iphones and galaxies. GEEZ… the N8 is a brilliant phone, marvelous features.
When you incorporate the N8 CPU AND GPU as one is outshines any smart phone on the market.

Without android N8 is a waste.. Symbian^3 is no where close to android & moreover I heard that most symbian s60 applications are not compatible with the symbian^3.. Hope someone hacks & installs android on it.. Except the os everything is good on the phone but they could have also provided a lens cover for the 12 MP camera…

Lets get this thing straight – Symbian is the only open source OS make it the more secured and with the kind of years it is been tested for … makes it more trusted. N8 is definately a little bit late, but had the worth to be respected and more than others. the hardware for sure is the best thing from nokia but mind it all hardwares are designed keeping in mind the OS to be used. u cannot install windows on a mac hardware (though I havn't tried it yet). android for sure is a very good OS but short aged. at the end opensource (technically) is more reliable and trustworthy (opensource cannot be hacked or corrupted). talking bout speed… thanx to kathryn for explaining how fast CPU and GPU together can be.
now comming to the rest. N8 got gorilla glass … probably the toughts glass used. aluminium body… nokia dont want it to break into millions of pieces falling from height of 2-3 ft. camera even if not covered cannot be scratched … scratch resistant. and moreover if u see it doesn't touch the surface if placed on whereever with the camera downwards.
Well thats all but still want to say … people thiks nokia is copying other companies for stuff, where as to tell you the truth … Apple is been sued by nokia for 26 patent infringments. to make it simple 26 features used by IPhone were patiented by nokia long before Iphone came to existance and that IPhone stole the technology. and Nokia had been a poineer in bring out new tech in market…. and not sure but probbly the oldest cell phone company.

I bought nokia n8 1 and a half month ago and its with service centre for a about a month now…this phone suckss…please dont buy it its full of bugs…u can check everywhere…it resarts again and again..and sometimes turn off and dont work for many days inspite of trying like 50-60 tries..if u want u can take my suggestion..i think nokia should stop selling this phone until this issue is resolved..

I just got the new Nokia N8 the installation is easy . I must say that i'm a bit impressed by some features, but the browser, the menu and text messaging is't the best i give it overall 6½ in scale of 1 to 10

its an amzing phone simple to use may seem complicated at first but very easy tokeep up. I do have a problem tho i seem to be in need of charging my phone everyday. how long is the battery supposed to last.

performance to be frank like S#@% only..
I am very frustrated with this N8 model due to the fact it always HANG and slow performance unlike iPhone which is much more faster and smooth operations… Heard that Nokia launches new firmware but how effective this firmware to solve this irritating performance of this so called "hi-end" product from Nokia… i should have bought iPhone instead if I knew such N8 has such lousy performance…
I have been supporting nokia phones for the past 10 years but now I felt I am cheated with disappointing performance for such expensive N8 phone… previously I had a bad experience with N97 mini too. Thought of giving Nokia a chance but seems now I gave up Nokia.

I want to know what has nokia done about the promises madefor N8? They said we will see a firmware release where there will be a gtalk application installed. Atleast give us the beta application for the same. Using nimbuzz and other softwares are buggy and they crash very often. I was expecting some good firmware release which will enhance the speed of the speed but nothing happened. And the worst thing they did was to collaborate with MS and the forst operating smart phone is like 15months away from now. Nokia you are bringing up very cool hardware but with the proper software like Android which is ruling the whole market you are bound to loose a very big customer base. We have android phones at the price of 1900 INR and they work like charm its high time Nokia did some thing to controll the customer base.

The N8 needs android. Its a brilliant phone but you guys are seriously behind on you apps exposure. The ovi store is frankly pathetic. We all hear how Nokia are not the giant they used to be and Symbian is without question one of the major reasons. My N8 is my backup phone at the moment. The second you release android for it, I will make it my primary phone.
Nokia needs to wake up. Symbian and Ovi store and dead in the water at the moment. Sorry

i have found nfc.wav tune in nokia n8 via x plore download from ovi the x plore app then install then open it select c drive then double click on resources then scrolldown and find nfc.wav tune double click on it and listen its same aas nokia c7 nfc tune
